Faucet shank is not long enough. What to do?

Gosh, I'm no plumber but I have installed numerous faucets in my house.I am familiar with things they sell in plumbing departments,I worked in a Hardware/Tool store for almost thirty five years. What I was thinking (and this might not be the proper way,but would work) you could look for a 1 1/2 reducing bushing to extend it down far enough. Then get a nipple to connect to the bottom of that. Then hook the supply line up to the nipple. I don't remember what size that is off hand. You will need a larger jam nut to hold the faucet in place because the bushing will have larger threads. I hope my idea helps you. If not, oh well I tried! Before I forget, use teflon tape on the threaded parts to keep it from leaks. :)!!
