What human problems have modern researchers solved?

Not many, but I would definitely say (in addition to the ones suggested by Jerry J) safety from natural disasters (particularly tornadoes), due to constant advances in warnings, and an increasing awareness of human rights and prejudices throughout the world and how they must be stopped.
