What do "functions" mean in ISO 9126?

I am analyzing the application of ISO 9126 in one of my projects and the metrics have me stumped. What does the term "Functions" mean, in reference to Internal Quality of ISO 9126? I wanted to understand the meaning of "Number of functions in which problems are detected in evaluation" when the project is still in the developmental stage.
